OSU Assistant Professor of Violin Kia-Hui Tan took 3rd place in the New Tang Dynasty Television First Chinese International Violin Competition held July 24-27 2008 in New York City. "It was a great experience to interact with violinists of Chinese descent from around the world. I only heard about the competition two weeks prior, sent in my application (with CD) and received confirmation of acceptance one week prior. It was all very impromptu to have such a short time to practice the competition repertoire (Mozart/ Bach/ Paganini/ Wieniawski) but I wanted to prove to myself that I really could pull it off should the opportunity comes (e.g. to step in as concerto soloist at the last minute when somebody cancels), it's something I have prepared for all my life."  Video with interview on youtube
