Who we are

We are a group of men and women, boys and girls, who have formed and constitute a congregation such as those described in the New Testament.

We are simply Christians (Acts 11:26, 26:28, 1 Peter 4:15-16), followers of Christ, and we comprise a church that is "of Christ" (Romans 16:16). We do not wear nor accept any designation not found in the scriptures, and we do not subscribe to any creed written by fallible men. Christ is our only creed, the Bible our only guide.

We are striving to be a church after the pattern found in the New Testament - in how we become Christians and in how we live as Christians; in what we teach; in the work we do as a church; in the way we are organized.

We are trying to speak where the Bible speaks and be silent where the Bible is silent, to do Bible things in Bible ways and to call Bible things by Bible names. We are interested in honoring God, to follow Christ, and in learning, doing, and teaching God's Word.

Our elders and deacons

The West Allen church is a self-governing body of Christians, organized according to the New Testament pattern of elders, deacons and saints (Philippians 1:1).

Three men serve the West Allen church as elders.  They are all mature Christians, and serve in the office of elder by reason of meeting the qualifications listed in 1 Timothy 3:1-7 and Titus 1:5-9.   Their duty is to watch out for the souls of the West Allen saints (Hebrews 13:17), thus the New Testament also refers to them as bishops (one who oversees) and pastors (one who shepherds God's flock).

Also, six men serve as deacons.  Their qualifications are listed in 1 Timothy 3:8-13.  Our deacons are special servants who manage the worship and day-to-day needs of the West Allen church - everything from worship assignments to building repairs.  They manage the church's physical needs so that the elders might devote their full attention to the church's spiritual needs.

Our preacher

Jerry King is the preacher for the West Allen church.  He and his wife, Amy, moved to Allen in July of 2006.  Since he began full-time preaching work in 1984, Jerry has preached for congregations in Lawrenceburg, Tennessee, Edna, Texas, and Deer Park, Texas.  Jerry has committed himself to teaching and preaching the simple truths of the Bible.  Whether he is preaching on moral issues, the New Testament pattern for the church, what a person must do to be saved, or any other subject, he takes seriously the charge to "Preach the Word!  Be ready in season and out of season.  Convince, rebuke, exhort, with all longsuffering and teaching" (2 Timothy 4:2).
