Entreprise STG58C Scout Carbine

Below are a few images of a recently aquired Entreprise STG58C rifle. I was very pleased with the fit and finish of the rifle. The images do not show the true color of the parkerizing. All the images I have seen and even these, show the finish as a light gray color. In reality and in all lighting conditions, the finish is closer to the Colt AR finish. A darker gray color which I like on a rifle. 100 rounds were put through the rifle this first day out and after getting the gas setting correct there were no malfunctions. The rifle actually felt as if it were being broken in and the action got smoother as the day went on. Accuracy was not checked via target and bench, but right out of the box I was hitting a 4" fence post consistently at 100 yards.(fence section lost to creek, not destroying good property!) Overall, my expectations were exceeded with this new rifle from Entreprise.

Update: 01.27.02 The rifle has had several new USA parts added so any pre-ban magazine can be used legally. New DSA handguards stay cooler and the new VOW folding charging handle works fine. A WAC scope mount and Compact Leapers 6x40mm with Burris rings has been added as well. The rifle has had approx. 1000 rds. thru it since April 01'. Update: 02.02.02 Went to range today to zero in QD PRO scope mount/Leaper's 6x40mm scope. New Burris "high" zee rings were used and did well during the zeroing. The targets below are the last two I shot at each range. Started with 50 yard zeroing and then moved on to 100 yard range. I am pleased with the results of each of the scope components. 50 yard target ended up 5 shots in 1". 100 yard had 5 shots @ 2 5/16" and then a flyer opened it up to 3". Fired 60 rounds of South African Milsurp, vintage 1981. Not bad for a 40+ year old Battle rifle, 20+ year old Milsurp ammo, and a $30 scope on a detachable mount! These rifles are awesome...

UPDATE: I had added a steel cover over the original muzzle brake holes as the Zero Climb MB was just way too loud. Plus I wanted to be able to build it up with Teflon tape for RG launches. After the ban lifted I had the MB removed and the barrel threaded. I can switch between the Browning long flash hider or the Belgian Combo Device for RG launching.

The Leapers scope shot to pieces in short order. I replaced it with an ATN 5x33LU scope that has a built in bullet drop compensator for the .308 caliber. It ranges to 500 yards with it's rangefinder bars. I had originally ordered the ATN Steel adjustable rings but they were way too heavy duty for this application and weighed 3/4 of a # together. I went wth Millet adjustable rings which are adjustable for windage. I followed the ring mounting instructions exactly and with the 5x33 on a Williams QD Pro scope mount the first shot was on paper 2" low and 2" to the left. I then added the Butler Creek Blizzard Scope Covers, #7's, to protect my investment. The scope is somewhat on the heavy duty side itself but eye relief and clarity or par for the price. The adjustable eyepiece helps us ole farts see the reticule and the target at the same time.
