Welcome to PEACECONFERENCING

The concept of teaching peaceful negotiation strategies to high school students was a direct result of the classroom experience during and immediately after the events of 9-11. Students turned to the internet, their medium for information, to understand the dynamic stream of events that was tragically unfolding. They needed a methodology to access the internet in “real time” as events happened and more importantly, they needed a sense of hope that global conflict would not always spin into further escalation.

Update: Peaceconferencing featured on the United States Institute of Peace website.

Update: Kristen Druker, founder of Peaceconferencing, was designated as one of twenty Teachers of the Future for 2010 -2011 by the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS). Check out this link !

Update: An Open Simulation Platform (OSP) created by Ronald Cole, Program Officer, Education and Training Center/International, United States Institute of Peace, Washington, D.C. will provide online connectivity for eighty-five students participating in twelve mediation/negotiation teams in May of 2010. Peace Conferences will focus on the following international flashpoints: Afghanistan, Haiti, Iran, Nigeria, North Korea, Palestinian-Israeli, Pakistan-India (Kashmir), Somalia.

PEACECONFERENCING, an online simulation in conflict resolution adapted to world flashpoints, was developed to empower students to see global events as challenges, with prospects for positive change.
