M8, also known as the Lagoon Nebula, is at the lower portion of the photograph. While the red color of the nebulousity is not seen, a small telescope still reveals a beautiful patch of emmision nebulosity divided by a channel of light absorbing dust. M20, known as the Trifid Nebula, is the red and blue nebulousity at the top of the photograph. M20, viewable in the same field as M8 using low power, is also a beautiful sight in a small telescope. Positive scanned on a Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 at 2700 dpi. Color curves were adjusted slightly after the scan. |
