M17, the Swan Nebula, is another beautiful sight in scopes about eight inches in diameter. It shows up well in my 4" FS-102 also. The Swan Nebula looks like its name when looking through a scope, but I can't seem to capture the swan shape with a photograph. Photographically, it just looks like a big ugly nose. Scanned with a Polaroid Sprintscan 4000 at 2700 dpi. The scan was heavily cropped so that the nebulousity would be more visible (I need a bigger scope!). |
