A paper written by W. B. Carlock for the McLean County IL. Historical Society, in a biographical sketch of George W. Mason, states

Joshua's father was Christopher Mason (died abt. 1822 Montgomery County, Ohio) and his grandfather was Philip Maurer who came

to Pennsylvania from Germany in the early 1700s and changed his name to Mason. I am working on dates and more information.

The http://www.isogg.org/tree/ISOGG_HapgrpI08.html site states that “Y-DNA haplogroup I is a European haplogroup,

representing nearly one-fifth of the population. It is almost non-existent outside of Europe, suggesting that it arose in Europe.

Estimates of the age of haplogroup I suggest that it arose prior to the last Glacial Maximum.  

 

I1-M253 – 1) One of the two main subgroups of haplogroup I likely divided approximately 28,000 years ago. 

2)      Has highest frequency in Scandinavia, Iceland, and northwest Europe.

3)      In Britain, I1-M253 is often used as a marker for "invaders," Viking or Anglo-Saxon.

 

I also had my results sent to National Geographic to participate in the GENOGRAPHIC project which is plotting ancestral migration from

Africa based on blood DNA marker values.  The GENOGRAPHIC project says my blood type’s journey started in east – central Africa with

“EURASTAN ADAM” 31,000 to 79,000 years ago.  It traveled north-northeast (M168) thru what is now called Ethiopia and crossing the

Red Sea into Saudi Arabia (M89).  It then turned to the northwest thru Turkey and into Europe (M170).  At this point I must assume it

continued northwest across Europe to the North Sea because according to http://docs.google.com/View?docid=dg8hv2jm_10f5kdq9  the

M253+ originated about 20,000 years ago in Frisia which is located on the North Sea shores of Denmark, Germany and The Netherlands.

 

According to:  http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~gallgaedhil/haplo_i1a_part_1.htm  I am a Haplotype # 10 and implies Anglo-Saxon linage:

“I1a-AS (AngloSaxon) is the most populous form of I1a that is found. It must be considered the major core haplotype variety of I1a; it acquired

its nickname (AngloSaxon) because it reaches its highest percentages of population in areas of continental Europe where the Anglo-Saxons are

said to have originated --- Netherlands, northwest Germany, Denmark.   It is also found in good amount throughout modern Germany, but falls

to about half the fraction of total population by the time you get to south and eastern Germany. Southern Sweden also has a good amount of

this basic I1a variety.   A good amount of this I1a variety has been brought to the British Isles; the most plausible scenario is that the

Anglo-Saxon invader/immigrants brought it.”

 

In March of 2006 I had FTDNA do my Deep Clade SNP testing.  They reported results of those as Haplogroup I and sub-clade of 1a.

The I1a designation has since been redefined and I am now designated as I1.  When I had FTDNA do the Deep Clade testing, I had seen

an assurance clause on their web site similar to the one they have now.  I called FTDNA and was told there would be an additional charge

if I wanted to upgrade my tests.  So much for the FTDNA Deep Clade testing assurance.
