THE BONESETTER'S DAUGHTER - by Amy Tan
Amy tan is a wonderful story-teller. She tells about the relationship between a mother and daughter, and how the mother's declining health forces the daughter to look harder at the origins of the challenges in their relationship. The patterns of their actions have their roots in family history of generations ago. The insights in this moving book are very healing, as this, too, is a story of lives intertwining on both sides of the veil. Review by Deena Butta
THE ALCHEMIST - by Paolo Coelho
This is an engaging fable about learning how to listen to your heart and follow your dreams. It is a book filled with wisdom, gentle humor, and many tender and poignant moments, set somewhere in the past. A young boy sets out on a life-changing journey to see the pyramids, and needs to make many decisions along the way. This a book about learning to follow your dreams and listen to your heart. It is one of the few books I have managed to make time to re-read several times, as it is such a healing book. Review by Deena Butta.
THE LOVELY BONES - by Alice Sebold
This beautiful book is narrated by a young girl who has been murdered, and narrates her story from the Spirit World. We all know that the Spirits continue to be involved with those they love, even from the other side; but it is fascinating to see the way this author describes the experience, and weaves it into a tale of continuing family love and personal growth and evolution that transcends time and space. The heroine is still involved with the people and places she lived with, as she has unfinished business. Following the murder, she is aware of everyone and everything in her family, her loved ones, and she observes the various ways they process the trauma of her death. She even learns that people of whom she was hardly aware become transformed in unexpected ways by her death. This is a wonderful book about the power of relationships, and how these connections continue into the next life. Review by Deena Butta.

REFLECTIONS
WITH THE MIRROR MANY OF US HAVE BEEN TAUGHT TO SEE GODDESS WITHIN. BUT A MIRROR IS ALSO A GREAT METAPHOR FOR CHANGE AND TRANSFORMATION. ESPECIALLY EARLY IN LIFE. WE MIGHT JUST SOAK UP THOSE IDEAS AND KNOWLEDGE WHICH ARE REFLECTED TOWARED US. LATER, WE MAY FIND OURSELVES CALLED TO REFLECT THOSE IDEAS WE'VE BEEN TAUGHT. OR THROUGH US AND OUR ACTIONS, WE MIGHT GIVE OTHERS THE CHANCE TO SEE THEIR OWN TRUE REFLECTION. EVEN LATER, WE MAY BECOME THE MIRROR, CREATING THE REFLECTION, HELPING TO MANIFEST OUR LIFE AND THE UNIVERSE IN WHICH WE LIVE. WHEN WE BECOME THE MIRROR, IT IS MOST IMPORTANT TO DO OUR BEST TO REFLECT IMAGES OF LOVE, BEAUTY, INCLUSIVENESS, PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY, TOLERENCE AND CRITICAL THINKING.
