The family had picnics on the shore of a pond that was part of a farm that they owned. It was a beautiful spot, discovered at the end of the path: It was the obvious location for the new house. The owners desired to keep the same feeling of discovery, after the house was built.
The father is a professional, the mother is a hobby artist, and the three teenagers where active like most. They decided that the house was to be divided in discreet areas, in order to reduce friction between living patterns.
The main floor contains the living areas shared by the whole family (kitchen, back entry and carport) plus most of the adult spaces (master bedroom suite, a hobby room, a living-dining room and the main entrance). This part of the building is a series of transparent pavilions surrounding a terrace that overlooks the pond. Upon entering one discovers the panoramic view, the woods and the pond beyond.
The lower floor contains the three children bedrooms, guest-study room, and the playroom, plus utility spaces and one private office. Its spaces open directly to the shore of the pond. The children bedrooms are under the terrace thus eliminating any direct sound transmission to the adult spaces above.
