The house is located on
land covered with pastures and mature hardwoods, high on an artificial lake to
the North. The owners required that the beauty of the location be fully
enjoyable from the house.

The circular driveway opens
to a parking area with porte cochere for guests and to a large carport on the work side
of the farm. A breezeway connects the carport to a large mud room that is the
everyday entrance.

The design combines passive
solar principles, great openness indoors and to the outdoors, high energy
efficiency and low maintenance materials.

Weathering finishes, wide
overhangs, and no gutters reduce maintenance.

Careful orientation and
siting was required to take advantage of passive
solar features and views.

A 2 bedroom guest suite
plus an office were later added in the lower floor.
