Refined contemporary, extremely bright and open, 3300 SF of
heated area, master bedroom on main floor, 2 guest bedrooms
downstairs, secluded art studio with darkroom, convertible
garage.
- This home is designed for " Empty Nesters" with an
active family and social life. The open plan is articulated in distinct spaces
by changes in level and by low partitions. The house is suitable to entertain
a crowd or an intimate party.
- The main house is connected to the garage and study
pavilion by a breezeway and deck terraces. They wrap around a landscaped
courtyard, creating views with many interesting details. Inspired by classic
Japanese architecture, the decks and the garden are an integral part of the
living space as it follows the natural slope of the land. A large barn door on
the deck side transforms the garage in an open pavilion, extending the garden
space for large parties.
- Weathering finishes, wide overhangs, and no gutters
reduce the maintenance.
- The passive solar features required careful
orientation and siting.
- This house won the Honor Award in the 1992 Triad AIA
Design Awards Program.
