Multiform

5th edition rules requires characters to buy the multiform power only on their True Form character sheet and the True Form does not have to be the most expensive form.

The result is very genre, but when applied to a significantly cheaper true form- basically makes the Multiform Power free. For example a 50 point kid could buy a 100 point Multiform plus 16 forms (+20 points) meaning he would end up costing 170 points. For this he gets to select from 16 500 point characters. Not only is the very efficient, none of the 500 point characters ever paid for the ability to change into other forms. The result is both power and versatility beyond the listed point costs.

Experience advancement is also a problem as 1 point gives 5 for multiform, and the suggested HERO Games FAQ solution to that (requiring the True Form to spend 5 XP on itself for every XP spent improving Multiform) can very easily break character concept.

To correct this problem in those cases when the True Form is not the most expensive form, the following changes in the construction is made.

  1. Buy the Multiform as normal for the point total of the True Form (without the cost of Multiform added in). Apply adders, advantages and limits as normal.
  2. Buy the ability to exceed the true form points paying 1 point for 1 point. No advantages or limits can be applied to this cost.

Example:

Peter (in his normal human form a 185 point character) has the ability to change into a 430 point Superhero which exceeds his True Form by 245 points. He can do this Instantly and will revert back to human if knocked unconscious (a -1/2 limit).

The cost to his True Form is:

28 Multi-Form: Organic Steel version of self- 185 pts
    -Instant Change (+5 pts).
-Reversion only if knocked out (-1/2)
245 Points Exceeding True Form: 245

Total True Form character cost is now 185 + 28 + 245 or 458

Note, this method is functionally the same as the Fourth Edition version of Multiform. There the most expensive form was required paid the cost. Here however the power appears on the True Form Character Sheet (as it should) in the 5th edition manner.
