The Variable Power Pool is a useful method for creating spell casting abilities as it best recreates many genre effects. However the limit on Active Points = Pool Point Total results in an outcome of ‘I can always run multiple powers’ when dealing with power sets that have common limits. Various types of magic spell sets typically run into this issue with limits like gestures, incantations, etc. This is not appropriate for all character conceptions.
The official rules suggest a limit on the number of powers the character is able to construct at a single time, however this results in unused points.
The following option is added:
The Maximum Active Point Limit for a VPP can increased by 2 for every point spent. No limits can be applied to this cost.
Example: A 30 point pool can have a 60 Active Point limit on it's powers for a additional cost of 15 points.
