Riders should check in at all SAG stops even if they are not stopping for refreshments.

All rides that start at Alpine Village in Torrance will have the starting location changed to K-Mart parking lot on the other side of the freeway from Alpine Village on Torrance Blvd. This change should be noted on all route slips.

Nick Bement has volunteered to lead a short, slow ride on Sundays starting at the La Mirada Library. Details will be in the next Tailwinds.

Vice President’s Report: We have one new member this month. Larry Stern.

Ride Chairperson: The "B" Rides are now starting at 8:00 AM and the "A" Rides will start at 8:00 AM beginning October 31st. The Beach BBQ Ride was very successful again this year. There were 3 different rides for members to choose from. All of the rides and the food were very good. We had approximately 20 members that showed up to ride. Everyone had a good time. It was a good event that should be continued.

"A" "B" and "C" Rides: All rides are doing well.

Sunday Rides: Rides are doing well. Need to ensure that no one gets left behind by themselves. Sometimes riders like to take off ahead, especially on the river trails. There should never be anyone riding in the rear by themselves. There should always have at least one person in the rear as a sweep, preferably an experienced rider.

There was a meeting in Brea on October 14th concerning a proposed rails-to-trails multiuse trail. The proposed route will be a 4.5 mile stretch between Imperial Hwy and Lambert Rd running from Valencia Avenue to Puentes Street. Long term goal is to connect to other regional trails. We had 4 SCOR members attend this meeting; Carol Roeder, Nick Bement and Wes & Judy Jacobson. There will be another meeting on November 5th at 6:00 PM in Community Room A at the Brea Civic & Cultural Center.

They are looking for ideas from anyone interested in these trails. The address is 1 Civic Center Circle, Brea, CA 92821. For more information call (714) 671-4457 or email emilyku@cityofbrea.net.

Newsletter: Get your articles in by the first Friday after the General Meeting.

Gifts and Donations: Nothing to Report.

Events: Annual Banquet: Fun for Everyone. Highlight of evening was Randy Ice being presented with the Lifetime Achievement Award. A note of

warning when using large bills: One of our members used a $100 bill

to purchase drinks. He was given back a $50 bill as part of his change.

A few days later he tried to spend that $50 bill and found it to be

counterfeit. Be careful when cashing large bills. Better yet, bring

smaller bills with you to prevent this from happening.

Christmas/Holiday Party. Will be held on 13 December 2009 at

Richard and Denise Godhardt’s home.

Solvang Status: At this time we have 900 riders registered on-line and 350 registered by mail. We are expecting to have 1600 to 1800 riders at the Solvang Prelude. Discussed volunteer status and parking for staff at the event. Randy showed a sample of the sock that will be given away at the century ride.

Old Business: The new shipment of jerseys and jackets has arrived and is available for purchase at the clubhouse.

New Business:

Judy Jacobson presented a concept for a bicycle charity program. Contact rehab facilities and schools to see if there is an interest there to receive free bicycles. Contact bike shops to see if they can provide donated bikes or bikes at a reduced cost for us to donate. SCOR members could give presentations to various facilities in their areas. Have an essay contest or some other way to determine who or where to donate bicycles. Anyone interested in participating please contact Judy Jacobson.

Randy Ice will give a talk on diabetes at the November general meeting.

Guido announced that he will give a class on how to change a flat tire FAST at the November general meeting. Those interested in learning this valuable skill should bring a front wheel to the meeting in November.

Election Results:

President: Bill Rider

Vice President Guido Acquistapace

Secretary Sheila Lyons

Treasurer Albert Hong

Ride Chairperson/ Miriam Acquistapace

Sergeant at Arms

The office of Treasurer was a tie vote between Donna Thompson and Albert Hong. In the past when this has happened the winner was determined by a toss of the coin. Because of this precedence a coin was tossed by President Richard Amendola and Albert Hong won the toss. It was suggested that an amendment be made to the bylaws for future elections to determine how a tie vote should be handled.

There being no further business the meeting was adjourned at 7:56 PM.

Wesley Jacobson
