CANYON DIABLO GRAPHITE NODULE

THE 14TH SPHERE OF MY COLLECTION

COMPLETED DECEMBER 24TH, 2007

A Graphite Nodule from the Meteorite Crater was on the top of my Wanted list but finding one large enough to produce a 50mm sphere seemed impossible. While searching Ebay I found an auction for a 1750 gram specimen that looked promising but its price was out of my comfort range. The item did not sell so I contacted the seller & offered my processing services in exchange for enough material to make my sphere. At first Stephen was hesitant but I was persistent & eventually he decide to send the specimen to me for evaluation. I determined that there was enough material for my sphere & was confident I could make enough money on the excess material to cover his profit expectations. The material was very easy to process. I quickly cut it into a sphere rough & several slices. Even though it was mostly iron I didn't think the graphite would stand up to the stress of metal machining equipment so I decided that John at The Rare Earth Trading Company was the best person to turn it into a sphere. While he was working on it I quickly sold the excess material & exceeded Stephen's expectations. When I received the sphere I was stunned by it's beauty. It actually occupies the center front position on my collection shelf right in front of my Brahin Pallasite Sphere.
