From 1982 through 1993, my wife, Jane, and I made annual
canoe expeditions into the primitive back country of Algonquin Provincial Park in
Ontario, Canada. We carried everything including camping equipment, food,
clothing, and camera equipment in our packs. To reach the interior, we had to
carry the canoe and packs over numerous portages between lakes varying in length
from 50 meters to 4.5 kilometers. The rewards of beauty, solitude, wildlife,
and communing with nature were well worth the effort. |
