Problems with Database?
eMail developer.
AwosWX
uses iPhone location services to determine your current location so
make sure 'Location Services' is set 'ON' in the iPhone 'General
Settings'. An internal database is searched to find the phone
number of the weather observation station nearest your current
location. The
call is made after displaying the city name associated with the number
for two seconds. AwosWX does not require an Internet
connection
to function.
Note,
about 200 of the entries in the database do not have locations
associated with them, so these can only be accessed using the
application's ListByState tab, or the FAA code search feature.
The
AutoDial tab is used to search automatically by location, it also allows one to search for and if found, dial a station
by its 3 character FAA code. Simply tap the field in the upper
left corner of the view, enter the code, and tap 'Search'.
The station will be dialed if it is in the database. The
user may also change the default EB-57 image to any photo in the iPhone
Photo Album, this includes pictures taken with the iPhone or
those loaded from iTunes. Simply press the 'Change Image'
button and select the desired photo. The image may be changed as
many times as desired. Note, the only way to return to the EB-57
photo is to delete and re-install the awosWX App (your Favorites list
will be lost if you do this).
The Favorites tab allows the user to store those stations most often
used. The favorites list starts empty and new entries are added
by tapping the '+' in the navigation bar. After tapping the '+',
type in the FAA identifier and, if valid, the station will be added to
the list. Tapping an entry in the list will dial the
station. 'Right swipe' an entry to delete it from the list.
The favorites are always sorted alphabetically by FAA code.
The
ListByState tab displays a list of all the stations in the database
grouped by state and sorted by city name. The list is indexed
on
the right by the state's abbreviation code so one may go directly to a
desired state. Once a desired city is found in the list, tap
the
entry to dial the station. The list also displays
the three
letter FAA code and the frequency to access the station by radio if
available. NOTE, this view takes a few seconds to load.
The button at the top of this page is to access the FAA's web site
at www.faa.gov/air_traffic/weather/asos/. Tapping
this
button will end awosWX and start Safari.
