Brazilian guitarist Ricardo Vogt has been leading The
Brazilian Elektric Band since 2003, reviving the funkiest Brazilian
grooves from the 70's. Leala Cyr
leads the ensemble's horn section and adds her original compositions to
the repertoire.
A Wisconsin native, Cyr’s
first musical influences were Nat and Natalie Cole and later as she
made the trumpet her instrument - Miles Davis and Charlie Parker. The
Brazilian guitarist Guinga has played and influential role in her
affinity for Brazilian jazz
Voted "Best Jazz Vocalist" in the college division by Down Beat
Magazine's student music awards in 2005, Leala Cyr has also been featured in
Berklee College of Music’s Singer's Showcase. A lover and performer of
Brazilian/World music, Cyr's
current projects include a duo with Ricardo Vogt and as a member of the
Nando Michelin Quartet.
Ricardo Vogt has
had the honor of performing with many outstanding musicians, including
Esperanza Spalding, Rosa Passos and Eliane Elias. As a member of
Elias’s quartet, Ricardo tours around the world and has performed at
the Copenhagen Jazz Festival, Madrid Jazz Festival and the Dinant Jazz
Festival. He is featured on Eliane’s recent album Bossa Nova Stories,
on Blue Note Records.
Drawing from the rich well of song writers such as Elis Regina and
Antonio Carlos Jobim, the Brazilion Elektric Band has that straight
ahead bosa nova groove. Leala and Ricardo are joined by bassist John Gibson, James LeFavre – Drums, and Steve Johnson and John Croarkin - saxophones.
