Green Bay based quartet Open Interest bills themselves as
“more than just jazz”. Together now for over five years this group’s
“open interests” includes blues, funk, swing and even a little
country. Many of the tunes are original compositions or arrangements of
standards from many different styles.
Saxophonist and flautist John Salerno
has worked with a variety of artists including The Spinners,
Engelbert Humperdinck, Roberta Flack, and Joe Williams. As a jazz
educator John has led clinics and judged jazz festivals throughout the
country including the prestigious University of Northern Colorado Jazz
Festival. John’s writing and arranging skills are employed to great
advantage with Open Interest.
Playing and composing since the age of nine, keyboardist Greg Pagel co-contributes to Open
Interest’s sound through his writing. CD Baby describes his own CD,
Plastic Machine Music as …”an ingenious hybrid of jazz fusion
backdrops, experimental electronic innovation and a poprock-informed
writing,”
Lawrence grad bassist Craig Hanke
has been playing bass for 30 years. His dependable, hard swing touch is
a key element to Open Interest’s solid groove.
Drummer Terry Iattoni, is an
active performer and educator, and has been playing percussion and
teaching for over 30 years. Terry’s performance credits include working
with Richie Cole, John Harmon, David Hazeltine, Geoff Keezer, Ellis
