In the past few years I’ve been intently focused on natural forms as subject matter.  Each image filled with contradictions and complexities.  Flowers, bones, eggs, grass, rock and fruit have been my subjects.   I see their world as a mirror of our own.   It makes for an interesting contrast both in form and content.  I manipulate my subjects in the same way we manipulate our thoughts.  I cut, tear, bend, enhance, add and subtract from what once was to make it into what I am trying to communicate.   I use still life to represent life.

My work explores the human experience.  I have always been fascinated by the human condition.  We all feel.   The challenge is to glean some meaning from all of those feelings.   How we react to situations is what makes us uncommon; what makes us each unique.  I explore this thought in my work.   I often combine objects out of context.   I enjoy creating meaning through these unusual juxtapositions.  My particular challenge is to communicate the emotions, situations, allegories, myths and experiences of a human life, via still life.

I have always loved a good metaphor.  Constructing an analogy is my best means of communicating what I am thinking.  Rocks, fruit, wire and rope are metaphors for one human experience.   I’m moving on a path that reflects where I’ve been in my life.  The path of my experience is what I draw on.  The meanings are archetypical and universal.  The journey and what I take from it are what I can in turn contribute.  The images I make represent pieces of my own personal history, and echo the story of a collective humanity.
