this tutorial is a work in progress so if im wrong or you have repaired a setup that is not listed here PLEASE e-mail me dez-slut@adelphia.net or wr_nesbitt@hotmail.com and let me know   Thank You! dezslut

New: > start game like you were going to host a IP game.

What IP is atop chat box in blue room?  if its not whats show on whats my ip than you have a router or another network adapter redirecting you internally

YOU CANNOT MAP PORTS IF YOUR ROUTER IS SET TO DHCP!

Run a internal static LAN with IP,  Gateway,  Subnet Mask and DNS entries entered

Disable all other network adapters that can have a IP address.

some cable/dsl modems are routers/firewalls be sure you have the manual (pdf). and can log into it if, also some ISP's filter certain ports

at best cheap routers (internet gateways) launch at best 90% of the time get a linksys that can run linux router software on it and you might launch 95% run a pc as a gateway/router with winroute lite and youll launch 100%

>>>>>>> WIRELESS >>>>>>>>>>>>

If your cell phone never disconnects or drops a call then I guess wireless is ok (NOT)

If your within 20 feet of the wireless router it might be ok (if your that close run a cable dummy), also usb 1 sucks and I would stay away from usb all together.

b4you do anything to your pc check for loose eithernet conections
Stay away from usb network conections usb's regularly disconect while transfering data but if you must be sure cable has not gotten pulled out and socket is not damaged do not use a usb hub inline from your pc to internet modem

to easily bypass the router all you have to do is remove the cable where your internet goes into the router and plug it into one of the other slots then remove input cable from modem then also plug it into one of the other expansion pc slots, remove all other cables to other pc's temporarily (youll be using the router temporarily as a hub to locat where your connection issues truly is so this way you wont mess/move with your cabling this works where ever your router and pc are) for 98SE/ME/2000/Xp/Vistaa run in a command prompt ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew
you must reboot pc for win9X

this is he fastest way to play and connects every time and will show you that getting the game to play through your router will fail and disconnect and fail to connect if you dont set it up right! my experience with routers is they dont give 100% connectivity all of the time, not using a router and manually entering the DNS server address provided by your ISP is the most reliable way to launch every time, the next most reliable way is to use a pc as a router running winroute lite, what they sell as a router is a gateway(some can be configured as true routers on some linksys you can run linux routing sooftware and i hear are more dependable and configurable)
antivirus gateway software can be run on a pc if you use it as router this means you wont have to have antivirus software running on your other pc's conected to that gateway/router/ file server(ftp, http)

DNS: manually entering your ISP's DNS IP settings will help speed up web browsing and reduce connection problems

eaiest way to find the correct dns server address is in a command prompt run ipconfig / all dns address are just ip address(locking these addresses in will also prevent homepage jacking viruses and porn redirects to lock make host lookup file read only or run additional software like firewalls

be sure your firewall is off while performing these tests
then go in after connectiong to a game and enable the firewall then see if it prevents you from connection, also a pop up dialouge for firewall permission might pop up than they like to hide under the open window

be sure to disable all other network devices temporarily that could have a IP address ie usb, 1394, modems, other nic cards(wireless) , other virtual adapters(vmware) other applications may have installed then enable them 1 at a time and test game

So far
Windows Media Player 11 SUCKS for MCM2 if you play at xfire you have to either run wmp9/10 or a older version of messinger or you'll get a hyperbike bug!

if your using xp your a fool not to use xp's firewall

connecting to directplay:

port settings: for routers, firewalls and winroute
to play direct play lobbyable apps like MCM2 and MM2
if you use a router your internal network your LAN must be staticly addressed using the routers IP for the gateway in the tcp/ip IP settings dialouge, then you must "Port Forward" or "MAP" not NAT these ports
to your PC's >IP< that you want to play on.

static LAN settings:(example)
gateway will be your routers IP: 192.168.100.0
your gaming pc's IP: 192.168.100.1
all subnet mask: 255.255.255.0

47624 dx7
6073 dx8
2300-2400
25999 x-fire
25777 x-fire ftp
13139 gamespy udp

other apps can find and steal open ports causing probs so any application that needs a special port needs to have their ports opened like messinger, other games, chat crap, gaming zone, etc...

then less crap you have running while playing the better
close all windows and turn off any applications
not needed while playing your game

<<< on first play after (re)-install >>>

you should run the cd 1 time to answer the eula:(end liscense user agreemeny)

create your profile and adjust all your settings:

there are 2 profiles for each profile name. 1 for singleplayer the other for multiplayer to set up multiplayer profile select it from the profiles list then click the dual helmets then TCP/IP then internet then host

to set single/dual pass to none it reverts 1 time so you have to go set it play a game then go set it again then close game this will lock it to none this gives 15 to 30 fps on the first play on maps that use the game added textures(the ugly grainy black dots since mxu came out they have replaced the grain with some other patterns

be sure to turn of into movie if indeo codec is corrupted or out of date and not registered youll have issues launching into singleplayer

make a additional profile then restore your settings in advanced to it then save a copy! in case you loose it(reformat) or it becomes corrupted

now you can put in your NOCD file

>>>>> DXDIAG <<<<<<<<

click start then run then type in "dxdiag" then click ok

at bottom right click save all information

save it where you can find it

then open it do a search for

"DirectPlay Lobbyable Apps"

under it you should see:

Motocross Madness 2 (DX7) - Registry: OK, ExeFile: mcm2.ICD etc...
(this is produced the first time you run the game with the CD IN!)
if you dont see it remove the NO CD file use the original mcm2.exe once
then/or reinstall both DirectPlay 8.2 and DirectX 9.02c
then! the Game
>> XP(x64) doesent show this in the 32bit or 64bit dxdiag text <<

ok now on dxdiag you can test directplay on the network tab

obviously someone will have to host

if you cant connect let them try connecting to you first

if that works the problem is definately in your setup

also while your in the directx control panel lock your monitors refresh rate for in game(if this isint done all youll get is 60htzs as default in any application using the overlay

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

if you cant play singleplayer but you can online then re-install indeo codecv then uncheck play intro movie in game

if you cant alt/tab out replace nocd file

if game kicks while selecting bike or rider you have a bad skin

if game kicks while selecting event there is a bad map

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

available singleplayer modes:
race mode used for everything singleplayer

available multiplayer modes:
race mode used for all but tag

chase mode is tag only!
bikes are faster on line network issues are buffered for visuals

there is some kinda buffer system, delaying data transmission slightly to a common virtual what i call the scoring frame(this is the frame as in frames per second but never are any of the players on this page, the better you network and video setup is the closer to thios page in time you will be seeing in your display
example: you might not see a player next to you or behind you
that is really closer to getting the tag or may have already gotten tag but on your pc it looks like you are closest and should be awarded a tag.

latency is more important than bandwith to this game(we played with with peeps on 56k and didnt have lag) if latency is good and host has broadband you wont see lag from network
example: on a national of 5 laps(10 mins) only 1 mb of data is transfered .gho and .vcr files have all the riders in them and you can page up and change view for all players anywhere on track all this data except tag/stunt scores are saved in these files

the best you can hope for is your video set up and also your internet settings dont hold you back from viewing the closest frame it has to the actual virtual scoring frame, if you have done this than and any lag will be from other things you may have running or not having recieved the data and the buffer of frames running out or omitting(skippin, incoming data) a laggers position
(freezing players is a pc issue on either pc or buffer has run out of frame data to send or hasnt/cant or is slow processing frame data as mits being recieved)

these adjustments and recorections of your actual player view
(done on them really lentghy crashes that go on forever)
this buffer speeds/slows bikes speed and position for your best 3d visual experience(2 pcs in same room have at least a second of delay between them, this is apparent when you hear a tag twice,
in fact its so disracting we had to use headphones or 1 pc goes without audio

services:
therre are alot of services that can be turned off
but unless you know which ones dont mess with them
http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm
there is a list of what you can and can not turn of for services
