A Gallery of Our Carvings (Page One)
Capricorn This pair of Zodiac symbols were the first carving projects we started, back in 1969. The wood is basswood, and they are about 15 inches tall. Capricorn, on the left, was carved by Durwood. Leo, on the right, was carved by Heidi. We didn't actually finish them until 1979! Leo
During that time, we both worked on our eagle clock. This large (49 inches across, 5 inches thick) carving was made from a laminated block of mahogany; the talons are carved from birdseye maple. We started this carving in 1970 and finished it in 1976. The design was based on one by Ken Rucker, our instructor. We've been told that a similar carving hangs in a lodge hall in Oceano, CA.
