The Group: McKenzie, Finnigan and Cameo

I’ve never known what it’s like to be without a dog.  My best friend through my teenage years was a collie by the name of Bonnie "Lassie".  Our family never missed an episode of Lassie.

In my senior year in college, I rescued a mutt from the local SPCA.  His name was Josh and he looked like a small English setter.  Josh was a great Frisbee dog and wowed people with his variety of tricks.  He dropped to the ground on his side when you shot him with your finger and could sneeze on command.  He even learned to go and get a tissue.  In those days, I didn’t even know the world of obedience, agility and such existed.

In the ‘90’s, I got my first golden retriever, McKenzie.  When she was old enough, we took one of those church basement obedience classes.  The instructor recommended that I pursue further classes and competition.  That’s how I got connected to SOTC and Dottie.  I loved every class I took and took it all in like a sponge.  So did McKenzie.  Despite my many learning and training errors, McKenzie has earned 18 AKC and Golden Retriever Club titles in obedience, agility, tracking, rally and the field.

Since I was still working at the time, I didn’t want McKenzie to be alone and brought Finnigan into our home.  I had a little more experience and he had great athletic ability.  He now holds 24 titles and is not done yet at nine years old. That's him jumping through the tire at the top of this page!

Lastly, Cameo came along due to a breeding I did not want to miss.  At only two years old, she already has 9 titles.  I have high hopes and dreams for her future.

I am a teacher by trade having taught and coached at Central Square and having been a school administrator at Central Square and Syracuse City Schools.  I love teaching and find great satisfaction in seeing the progress and accomplishments of those taking my classes.

My goal is to nurture the bond and joy between dog and handler and to do my best to bring out the best talents in both!
