I
first started training my German Shorthaired Pointer, Rudy,
after
taking a clicker course. I trained him by myself without
taking
an obedience class. I was doing it all wrong but didn't even
know
it. I barely managed to put a Novice A obedience leg on Rudy
before giving up. About that time, I acquired a 2 1/2 year old Australian Shepherd, Isis, to train. I decided I should take a real obedience class so I started in Dottie's Young Dog Competition Class. She liked Isis but didn't want me to give up training Rudy. At her suggestion, I worked him at home following the exercises I learned in class. Before long, Isis came into season and was bred by her co-owner. By now, I was getting hooked on obedience and the only other dog I had to train was Rudy. With Dottie's help and guidance, Rudy and I started to pull things together and became a team. He earned his CDX in January, 2008, and is currently training for Utility. When Isis wasn't busy with mommy duties she was taking obedience classes and loving it. She is competing for her CDX and started Utility training this spring (2008). Both Isis and Rudy have obedience titles, rally titles and agility titles. Recently, I started training Isis' daughter, Giggle, and we're competing in Rally Novice this spring.
