In
one way or another, I have always had animals in my life, primarily
horses and dogs (along with a few odd ball animals, just to keep it
interesting). I have trained horses and dogs since I was in my early
twenties and began instructing a few years later; I have trained and
coached in several disciplines throughout the years.
Initially the dogs were trained to be my companions/partners when
working with the horses. About seven years ago, after my children had
been gone for a while, I needed a new project. I decided to focus on
dogs as more than an assistant in the barn. I had often wished that I
could train, compete, and instruct with dogs as I had with horses,
while still maintaining the bond that comes with working with horses
and dogs together. I knew that it would take a special breed to
accomplish this. I had always loved the herding breeds, especially
Border Collies. Little did I know where they would take me! And what a
great ride it has been.
After about two months of life with Tye and Bandit, I realized that I
needed some direction, and pronto. That is when I found Dottie, who was
at first a little skeptical about BC's (especially mine, who were just
a little crazed), but we all survived. Dottie was a fantastic resource
and has helped me go far beyond my initial goals with my dogs.
Tye is my Novice A dog and has been an absolute inspiration. He is the
most willing animal I have ever been graced to work with! He has taught
me so much about working with dogs; I would never have made it without
him. I have since acquired two more Border Collies, Mae and Quincy, as
well as a special Australian Shepherd named Pippin. Mae is my agility
girl. Most recently she earned the CPE Standard Level 2 title, winning
first place with zero faults. Pippin recently won the U.S. Australian
Shepherd Association 2007 Recognition Award for being one of the top 10
ranked Aussies. Both Tye and Pippin have earned several High in Trial
awards, and Pippin has won High Scoring Aussie.
No matter what your goals are with your dog, whether you wish to
compete or just to train your dog to be a pleasant addition to the
family, I will help you reach your goal and show you what a joy it is
to have calm, balanced, and obedient dogs in your life. I can't wait to
start!
