We socialize our kittens from very early in their lives so
that they reach their full Maine Coon potential for sweetness and
goofiness. Bob works out of our home, so there is nearly always
someone at home with them. The whole family participates in socializing
the kittens (and it's such a tough job!). Our goal is to raise
trusting but also well-mannered coonlets. We've loved and cared for our kittens from the time they entered this world (not to mention considering which cat to breed to whom, long before they were even conceived). And I've signed a code of ethics as a breeder member of Maine Coon Breeders and Fanciers Association. Here are some questions I'll have:
See more pictures of Dukehaven kittens on Our Girls pages. Messing with the kittens is my favorite part of being a breeder. Once kittens are about 3 weeks old, they're coordinated enough to be playful. Like a human baby, they're innocent and curious and just learning what this big world is all about. Breeders are privileged to be involved in that part of a baby's growing up, helping them discover their world, and gain confidence in themselves and in people too. They do some cute and kooky things in those early weeks! I don't generally place kittens with other
breeders, unless I know the breeder and have visited their cattery.
For me, a trusting relationship with the breeder and quality environment for
the cat is equal in importance to
the qualities of the cat itself.
