PVC Pipe Bunk Bed Ladder

The lower mattress has been remove to allow play room.

This ladder is constructed from 1" PVC pipe and fittings.  It is strong enough to hold me, and should hold most kids.  The ladder is light and durable.  It will not mar most surfaces.  Below is a material list.

10'  1" PVC plumbing pipe, schedule 40

6  1" PVC tees

4  1" PVC 90 degree elbows

2  1" PVC caps

1  can of PVC cement (cleaner not needed)

1  can of white spray paint for plastic (Krylon)

1  pkg. of non-slip shower adhesive strips

The length of the each pipe section was calculated and tested.  For this bunk height 8" was determined to be the length needed for each section.  I cut 11 pieces 8" long.  This will be the rungs and the up-rights.  I also cut 2 short pieces 2" long.  These will be used to join the elbows to form the hook at the top.  Glue all parts together.  Be sure to keep the ladder flat, in the same plane as it is assembled.  Remove excess before it dries.  Paint with plastic paint of your brand and color choice.  After paint has cured, apply non-slip adhesive strips to rungs top surface.  Below is a detail of the top bed rail hook.

The bulk of the hook does raise the mattress, but this is the foot of the bunk.
