Round House (#6 on map)
|
|
Considered Prisbrey's prime structure, the Round House is made of 13,000 amber colored bottles (except for a rhythmic geometric pattern of blue Milk of Magnesia bottles over a facsimile fireplace). Large Clorox bottles were placed at the bottom and smaller beer bottles toward the top. It is 24 feet in diameter and was built 3 feet deeper into the ground than any of the other structures (dug entirely by Prisbrey). It's the only structure in which Mrs. Prisbrey used a level. The interior features a drainage control system based on the slope on the floor. There's a vertical shaft in the center (known as the "Glitter Pole") that is covered with crushed clear glass mixed in pink cement. It originally housed "all things round" and is still in very good condition. 415 square ft. (photo b.krieger 1961) |
