Belgian Bearded d'Anvers

Our Breeders

Louis XIV
Louis XIV was my first ever cock.  I bought him at the 2006 APA and ABA Nationals, and he has a sweet and malleable personality, as well as being extraordinarily good-looking.  He is always ready to climb up in my lap and fall asleep, and this is often the most convenient way for me to trim his toenails or beak.  For more pictures, click here.
Louis has also won first place over all d'Anver cocks in every show he has gone to- so far!

Papette
Papette was my first d'Anver hen.  I bought her and Louis as a pair at the 2006 APA and ABA Nationals, and she is also ready to please.  However, she also loves to fly out of my hands to peck and scratch on the ground. However, if I hold her just right, then she also will fall contentedly asleep in my arms - only to wake up as soon as I start walking, and flutter out of my reach once again.  Every now and then she goes broody, without any eggs, and will only come out for quick food and water breaks.  (This is generally when Louis is most protective.)  However, I am positive that if I worked with her on her flying habits, she, too, would make an excellent showmanship bird.  For more pictures, click here.  See Papette's page - chronicling her days of sitting on her eggs.

Volage
Volage (means "flier,") is by far the best-looking cock of the bunch, but he never lords it over anybody - in fact, he only seems aware of it when he poses for me.  Volage is not as ready to fall asleep, but he will stay in my lap, extraordinarily still, as I type, read, or do various other activities.  He has been present for most of the designing of this website, sitting in my lap or on my shoulder.  His parents are Louis XIV and Papette (see above).  For more pictures, click here.
Recently, at the Ventura County Fair, Volage placed first of all d'Anver cockerels, Best of Breed, and Best Rose Comb Clean-Legged!!  Congratulations, Volage!

Bijou
Bijou (means "jewel,") is a beautiful hen.  Like her mama, Papette, she loves to flutter right out of my hands, but, unlike Papette, she also evades capture for long minutes.  I have debated several times whether to rename her as "Fugitive," but it just doesn't do justice to her looks.  She has beautiful tail carriage, and when the mood strikes her, poses like a queen (or a supermodel) in her cage, next to her husband, Volage.  You can tell she absolutely adores her husband - when I take him out of their cage, she starts shrieking loudly and continues until I return Volage to her.  Her parents are Louis XIV and Papette (see above).  For more pictures, click here.
At the Ventura County Fair, Bijou placed first of all d'Anver pullets, and Reserve Best of Breed!!  Good job, Bijou!

Battre
Battre (means "flight") is another product of Louis XIV and Papette.  He is extremely lovable, and I may use him for showmanship later.  As for now, Louis is my main "man."  But Battre is as calm- or calmer- than his father, and is willing to go along with whatever I want him to do.  However, he dearly loves to stretch his wings, hence the name.  For more pictures, click here.

Oiseau (means bird) is Battre's "wife."  She, unlike the other hens, is much calmer and is willing to sit in my palm for long periods of time.  She has magnificent coloring and tail carriage, so I decided to keep her for myself, and raise even better babies with her offspring added to the bunch.  She is very popular with the cockerels she is currently housed with (including Battre) but I plan to have a new cage built for this stunning new pair.  For some pictures of her, click here.
