Potential Graduate
Students
I would like to attract MSc and PhD students to work in
fisheries oceanography of the California Current System, with
particular emphasis on small pelagic fish, krill and
squid.
You would need to be enrolled at UCSD or SDU, and I
would serve as a co-supervisor, but you would work in my lab at
La Jolla.
I am especially interested in students who want to
takle multidisciplinary problems using the CalCOFI datasets,
remote sensing, and fisheries data.
I encourage quantitative
approaches, the use of instrumentation, and statistical data
analysis.
I will expect students to master powerful analytical tools like
the R statistical language and
IDL , and to
work with large datasets. You will be strongly encouraged to
become expert with the Linux operating system.
If you are keen to master new tools, to engage in active learning, to work
with a team, and strive for high standards, I'd like to meet you.
As a start:
Bring any ideas you may have for a project, and we will discuss them
in the context of the resources where I work and you will study.
Come prepared to discuss your academic background and any work experience,
to see what training may help you achieve your goals.
Call me at 858 546 7083, or
write to me by email for further information.
