Retro Shard is for the Ultima Online MMORPG. Ultima Online was originally created by Richard Garriott AKA Lord British and Origin Systems. It was released September 25, 1997. A "shard" is basically another name for an online server. We call it "Retro" because of the theme. All custom content is based on the old single-player Ultima series from the mid 1980's to the early 1990s.
Retro Shard and all the other software used to play on it are completely free.
Our map is made completely from scratch. The land, town, monsters, npcs, everything. This map is relatively small-scaled to facilitate better gameplay for a small to medium player base. A version of Sosaria set in the Age of Darkness, it is some time around Exodus. As time goes on in the shard and the player count rises, new and exciting other maps will be added to provide more room and new things to do and explore. Many changes have been made to the fighting and crafting systems of the game. These changes should make your Ultima Online experience more enjoyable, but can be debated for change on our forums. This is not your basic "cookie-cutter" shard with the standard OSI maps and gameplay.
No and no. Being an "old school" themed shard in the first place, it really wouldn't be practical to implement UO:KR for this shard. There are also other issues with this such as legal stuff, tremendous lag and the need for newer PCs, and the fact that it would take ages to make all of our custom content look correct in both the 2D client and Kingdom Reborn.
You can play any style of character you want. The skill cap is 900. Humans and Elves are available. Other race or skill types may be added in the future. You are also allowed five character slots per account.
Yes there is! The whole world is open to PvP except guarded areas and newbie training areas.
Rules are listed below. Please read them as ignorance to them will not be accepted as an excuse if you are punished by staff. Things are generally laid back here and we are not strict, but failure to obey the basic rules will result in jail time up to an outright ban.
