Manual Climate Control Replacement
It may be necessary to replace the manual climate control assembly.
Replacement is necessary if the cabin air fan randomly stops
or if there is difficulty in setting the fan speed. If replacement
is warranted, the entire in-dash assembly for control of heating and cooling
can be replaced. This assembly (Saab Part Number 5174685) is available at
TheSaabSite.
To replace the manual climate control assembly, remove the passenger side access
panel to the dash as shown below. Also, remove the control knobs from the manual
climate control system. Make note of the control knob positions before removing
them to make it easier to re-install.

Find the white plastic air-flow control shaft, then slide the
shaft back to disconnect it from the dash control assembly.

The manual climate control assembly snaps into the dash with 2 top
and 2 bottom plastic tabs. Gently pry these tabs in to remove the
manual climate control assembly from the dash. In the back of the
manual climate control assembly, a fastener holds the
black cable that controls the heat level in place. This can be
snapped out of place using a screw driver as shown below.

Unlock, and then remove the cables as shown below:

Once all the electrical cables have been removed, the black cable
that controls the heat level can be twisted gently to unhook it from the
manual climate control assembly, allowing the old manual climate control assembly
to be removed completely from the dash as shown below.

Slide the black heater level control cable onto the new manual climate control assembly.

Re-connect the electrical cables.

Re-install the control knobs, then reconnect the cabin air-flow control
shaft in the back of the dash to complete the installation. Note, it is
helpful to set the air flow position to the same setting as when the
old system was removed to facilitate re-installation of the air-flow control
shaft.
