Green Thumb Contest
Each June and July the garden club advertises in the Scarborough Leader for gardens in the Scarborough area to be nominated for our Green Thumb Contest. People can nominate their own gardens, a neighbors garden, or a garden they drive or walk by that they think is pretty. The gardens have to be maintained by the homeowner and not professionally done. We need the nominees name, address, and phone number.
We start getting nominations for gardens in June and July. We notify the homeowners that their garden has been nominated and get their permission to come and look at it. The judging starts at the end of July into the first week of August. Winners are notified shortly thereafter.
We award a gift certificate from a local garden center for first, second, and third place winners. An article for the first place winner by the Scarborough Leader has been done in past years.
We highly encourage nominations. There are a lot of beautiful gardens in the Scarborough area and we garden club members love to walk through them and meet the gardeners who created them. Some are well hidden and a treasure to find. Some of these gardens will hopefully be on our future garden tours.
