1998 Gibb Family Christmas Letter
- As 1998 comes to a close we've come to the conclusion that the years are getting shorter. Blame it on El Nino or the Year 2000 that's just around the corner. . .this year really went by too fast!
Cayman and Morgan started second grade this year. They will be 8 years old this Christmas. Both are doing very well in school. Morgan loves to read and Cayman is big on math. They also started Cub Scouts this year with Tom as their Den Leader. One camping trip and many pack meetings later, their next planned outings will be snowboarding and getting ready for the Pinewood Derby races. They are also big on roller blading and bicycling. No major injuries to report this year. . .stay tuned.
Tom went to work for a new software company based here in San Diego called Websense. They have a product that allows Schools, Libraries and Companies to control Internet access. As the European Channel Manager he gets to make 4-5 trips a year across the big pond. This year he made it to Denmark, Netherlands, Sweden, Scotland and England. Tom really likes his new position and is enjoying new challenges.
Deb survived her first full year at Qualcomm as Director of Information Technology. Most of her time is focused on Internet strategies but the politics and constantly shifting priorities of a fast-growing, high-tech company are perhaps her greatest challenges. For relaxation, Deb decided to get back into golf this year. She plays as often as she can with co-workers and vendors. She's even got the kids into it now. With our ideal weather, you can play golf one day and go skiing the next!
The big family trip for the year was two weeks back in New England where we hid out from all relatives and work. It was heaven! Even a day with an enormous thunder and lightning storm was a welcome change. We spent lazy days fishing, swimming, and just hanging out with great friends. If we can't raise the boys in New England, the least we can do is go back often enough to put a little New England summer in their memories. Other get-a-ways throughout the year included two long weekends in the local mountains skiing and snowboarding and a few short trips in the motorhome. Tom is off to Europe again in January and Deb may sneak away for a ski and snowboard trip if the mountains get some snow.
We look forward to hearing news from all our dear friends at Christmas so please drop us a note.
Wishing you happy holidays and a wonderful 1999!
Tom, Debbie, Cayman, and Morgan
