Coach-2 had to get up early for their flight on British Airlines, but we left
the hotel at a reasonable time ~9AM for our short drive to the airport. On
the way there, Robin announced that our flight had been rescheduled for ~13
hours later because of the terrorism. I immediately thought this was a
joke, but when he went on with details of free phones and free email and sat
down, I decided he wasn’t kidding. Then he admitted it, but everyone
around me had been fooled. It’s surprising how one feels to have saved
12 hours of one’s life after accepting that these would be wasted. The airport
passage was normal, and the flight to Atlanta home uneventful. We didn’t sleep
as much as we would have liked.
David Casteel left a favorite hat on the
plane that he had purchased on his 12000 mile trip to Labrador in 2005. As
we approached customs, I ran back to retrieve it, but all doors were
sealed. When we reached the gates for the Dallas flight, we went back to
the departure gate for that plane and it was still on the plane. That
makes three out of three hats that I have been involved in retrieving on choir
tours, the other two being at Avignon and Azay-le-Rideau France in 1999.
Arriving home at 10:30PM as scheduled, we were picked up by the McKay’s daughter, Lisa, after 23 hours since we’d been in bed. I went to work on July 4 to compensate for a vacation day. It took us almost a week to get back to CST time. Chris had a sore throat and chest cold, and I caught it.
