About the MBOCC
The Morongo Basin Old Car club was founded by Jim & Dorothy Mackenzie in 1987. The members are often seen displaying their cars at community events, parades and special gatherings. They use their financial resources to support non-profit community organizations. MBOCC holds an annual car show in the fall and usually draws from 75 to 100 antiques and classic cars. More activities for 2008 will be posted in the near future. Please check back for dates, events and contact information.

Last spring, we covered the introduction of
California’s A.B. No. 462, which proposed to extend the range of cars
eligible to use California’s desirable year-correct black plates. Astute reader
Richard Rightler wrote in this weekend to let us know that Governor
Schwarzenegger signed an amended version into law on October 11. As
chaptered, Section 5004.1 of the Vehicle Code is amended to authorize correct
model year/date of year plates for a “vehicle that is a 1969 or older model-year
or the owner of a commercial vehicle or pickup truck that is a 1972 or older
model year. The bill would also increase the amount of the application fee to
$45.” There are other fees for transferring a black plate, and an
additional regular and expired renewal fee. You were expecting something for
nothing? The act takes effect on July 1, 2009.
