Explanation and Q&A of the Owl Box Setup

This guy (or gal) pretty much sits in the same place all day to watch over
the box.

We took the box down and clean it today. There were obvious signs in
the box that a clutch was laid and that owlets live in and left the box.
Stay tuned for next season.

There is still a great deal of activity in our owl box without the video
camera. There are certainly owlets in this box; there is just too much activity
for there not to be. We will keep our eyes peeled for owlets. The
box with the camera remains 'lonely'.
Here are two pics. As for the quality of the pics, they were taken with a Blackberry 8310 camera phone and a monocular as a "zoom" lens.

Good news and bad news; but mostly good. We have an owl, but it is not
in the box with the camera. We have two owl boxes at The
IronJungle. One close to the house with a wireless camera and the
other a bit more remote without a camera. So.... The good news is we
have an owl that hops in and out of one of the box daily. The bad news is we have
no exciting inbox video, etc. in that box.
We will keep our eye on the inbox camera; it may be used later as a food cache or as a home for late nesters. We will also keep an eye out for branchers and other owl like activity in the non camera box.

The owl was seen looking out the hole before sunset. The owl is still
not visiting the box daily.

8:05AM: After a 10 day vacancy, the owl was back this morning.
We hear (and have seen) owls in the yard almost every night, but none seem to
take to the box daily.

February 26, 2008 (Sunset at 6:27PM)
6:55AM: First sighting of an owl in the box. The near infrared emitters
on the camera
are not working so well and this will limit night viewing.
Hopefully, the camera will last through the season.
6:23PM: Sitting in the hole.
6:50PM: No longer in box.
