THE LATEST AT JERRY POPIEL.COM: Well, I've been promising a new solo album for a few years now... since about 2005 actually when the last Birdhouse Gourds album "Ohio" came out. It's pushing four years and you would think that's more than enough time to make an album, and you'd be right. But life gets in the way sometimes, and long stretches where the recorder "on" button never shines doesn't make for speedy work. I also decided that nothing would be thrown together -- any song that was worth putting out into the world would have to be good enough to make me feel proud to stand on stage and sing it. If a song didn't feel inspired, it went in the trash. If it sounded derivative or trendy, it went in the trash. If it just didn't do anything for me, it went in the round file... so what's left? Good stuff, I hope you'll agree. Most importantly, music should take you somewhere and move you emotionally, physically, or both. All of my favorite music does that and I've tried to do the same with this album. In any case, I'm really pleased with the results, and the album is just about complete. If all goes as planned, the new CDs should ship in July. Check back here soon for more details. Hope all is good with you -- be good out there! Peace, Jerry Right now, you're listening to Jerry's song "That Girl" from Birdhouse Gourds' "Ohio." |
