What is aromatherapy and what are essential oils?


Essential oils are the liquid "lifeblood" from shrubs, plants, flowers, trees, roots and seeds. As the most powerful part of the plant, essential oils have been used medicinally for thousands of years to kill bacteria, fungi and viruses. But it's only been in the last 70 years that medical researchers have been documenting their effects. Essential oils carry oxygen and nutrients to the body's cells; they can stimulate the regeneration of tissue and provide comfort and healing for digestive disorders. Oils offer pleasing fragrances that improve mood, create a positive environment and heal emotional wounds.  They can do so much more for us as well!

 

My experience:

  • my first time using essential oils: after a half hour of flying in a small airplane with cabin pressure issues, my ears were hurting terribly; an off-duty stewardess put some essential oil on a kleenex and told me to hold it up to my mouth and nose; within a few minutes, my ears stopped hurting
  • recent family stories
  • waking up with headaches: applying a drop of Marjoram & Lavender to my temples: within 10 minutes, the headache left
  • sore throat: variety of ways I've used essential oils: putting several drops of Thieves or Oregano with Thyme & Lemon in a capsule taken two to three times a day for 24 hrs took away the pain
  • menstrual cramps: a couple drops of Basil applied topically over the lower abdomen stopped the cramps within a minute
  • GI distress (stomach ache, diarrhea, 24 hr 'bug'): a couple drops of Di-Gize rubbed over the abdomen makes my stomach feel all better
  • lower respiratory infection in my chest: steam inhalation (bowl of boiling water with two drops of R.C.) twice a day for two days plus drinking Ningxia Red and taking capsules of Thieves cleared the cough and suspected infection
