Eagle Scout Recognition and Scholarship Program
Attention Scoutmasters!

The S.A.R. Eagle Scout Scholarship is open to all Eagle Scouts who are currently registered in an active unit and have not reached their 19th birthday during the year of application. The application year is the calendar year, 01 Jan. to 31 Dec. The year that Eagle was awarded is not restricted. College plans do not need to be completed in order to receive the cash scholarship.

Three levels of the competition are described below.

Local Chapter Level:

For the Greater Cleveland Council, which includes City of Cleveland and all of Cuyahoga County, a
Chapter winner will receive a S.A.R. Eagle Scout Patch, a certificate as chapter winner
and a $100 United States Saving Bond. He, along with his parents, will be invited as guests to the Chapter’s
George Washington Birthday luncheon in February (following the last application year ending
period). All other entrants will be mailed Certificates of Appreciation.

State Level:

The winning entry from the S.A.R. Ohio chapters will receive a Spreading Wings
desktop bronze eagle trophy and a check for $500. He and his parents will be guests at
the Ohio Society Annual Meeting in May.

National Level:

The National first place winner receives a check for $8,000. He and his parents
will be the guests at the National S.A.R. Congress in July. Second and third place
winners receive checks for $4,000 and $2,000 respectively.

You may apply more than one year if you meet the age requirements, but no more than $8,000.00 total may be granted to any one Eagle Scout.

Entrants need to complete only one application -- the one for the Chapter competition. If it is a winner, it is then used for the State competition, and if it is a winner again it is used for the National competition.

The application consists of:
1. The two page application form
2. The four generation ancestor chart.
3. The 500 word essay

Prizes and recognitions may also be awarded at the SAR Chapter and State levels.

Note: Applications are accepted during a calendar year for Scholarships to be awarded in the Spring of the following year. Your State Chairman can give you specific deadlines for receipt of applications at Chapter and/or State levels.

The competition is conducted in three phases, local (Chapter), State (Society), and National. The competition is usually entered through the Chapter level. In some cases, the competition may be entered at the State level. You may not enter directly at the National level.
