Davis Path to Mt. Crawford

Mt. Crawford is located in the White Mountain National Forest in the state of New Hampshie. It's the first peak of many that the Davis Path encounters as it travels through the Dry River Wilderness southwest of Mt. Washington(the highest peak in northeast America). This is a very old trail in the historic Crawfords Gap area of the White Mountains. There is a diverse array of wildlife including black bear, moose, and eagles. The Appalachain Mountain Club (AMC) helps maintain many of the trails in the White Mountains, and this is one of the finest areas to hike in the United States.

The Davis Pathe Trailhead leaves Rt. 322 parking area across a bridge over the Saco River, north of Bartlett, New Hampshire. The trail immediately heads straight up and becomes strenuous. In places there are inlayed rock stairs, put in place a over century ago. The climb continues for two and a half miles to the summit which is solid rock. The very top of Mt. Crawford is a playground for JRT's with shrubs, flowers, and water pools. We ate our lunch in a solid white cloud that day which never cleared while the dogs played all over the summit. The hike was a total of 5 miles, but the trip down was as difficult as trip up due to the slippery rock surfaces. The hike took over five hours to complete, but we enjoyed the workout.
