Pico Peak is located in the Green Mountain National Forest near Mendon, Vermont. This is a very populer hike with easy access to the trailhead. This trail was origanally the Long/Appalachain Trail, but over use of the trail required that the Long/Appalachain Trail be relocated to the west side of the mountain peak. The north face of the mountain is Pico Peak Ski Trail and Slope. This trail climbs the east side of the mountain with a spur trail near the top that leads to the Summit. This is a steep mountain trail that rises to 3873 feet.

There is a large parking area at the trailhead. The trail is easy to follow, but soon begins the long climb to the summit. The lower section of the trail was muddy with water running down the trail. A spur trail leaves the old Long/Appalachain Trail through a layer of pine shrubs. The top of the summit is large and has an access road for the ski lifts and radio towers. The views to the north overlooking the wilderness rivals those we saw in the western United States. We ate lunch on a cool 54 degree day as our Jack Russell Terriers played among the silent ski lifts. The trip down was difficult due to the steep, wet, rocky trail. The hike took four hours, and it was about five miles up and back.
