The Scrambler/Overlander Project:
Interior and Jump Seats

The interior of the Scramber as I purchased it wasn't usable for my purposes. There were only two front seats, and these were inexpensive fixed back seats that wouldn't allow for entry into the back seat once the hard top was installed. I found a set of YJ Wrangler front and back seats on eBay, so I purchased them, and then ordered new black leather upholstery (not seat covers) from Northwest Automotive Leather. They build a very high quality product that fits perfectly, and if you know how to reupholster, they go on very easily.

My Scrambler had seat mounting holes already drilled and tapped, but I wanted to allow more legroom, so I mounted the rear fold-and-tumble seat about nine inches further back than the stock location.

I also needed to seat more than 4, since I have a family of five. A little research led to the discovery of rear jump seats from a 1977-1984 Toyota FJ40 Land Cruiser. These seats were very easy to adapt to the Scrambler. Shown below are the seats in the down and folded positions. I also had Northwest Auto Leather make custom leather upholstery for these seats to match the leather they did for the YJ seats.

A simple bit of bracketry made from angle iron and channel was all that was required to mount the seats; seat belts were also mounted through the body tub for safety. Note the wing nuts used to hold the jump seat to the bracket - this makes the jumps seats easily removable in case more cargo space is needed.
