April 16th, 1863 -- It has stopped raining & the boys are fixing up their tents. Changed our cooks-Hen Allen & Talbot are in power. The 11th Regiment has moved they say--pretty hard for them. Have been making a list of clothing rec'd by Co. I today. Drill this P.M. did not go out. Wrote to Mother & Cousin Albert.

17th -- Fine day. Busy writing everything on drill this P.M. The Maj. "Drills."

18th -- Yesterday and today we have soft bread. There has been no drill today. Warm weather the buds are swelling.

19th -- Another Spring day. The frogs & birds make the morn. melodius. Writing to Julius. Went to the brook & washed. Slept the rest of the day.

April 20th -- Rather misty & rainy but not cold. Battallion drill P.M. interrupted by the rain. The Colonelgave the order "Boys you have always drilled so well in fair weather that I guess I'll not (make) you in the rain. Double quick to your tents, March!" Then there was a scampering & such yelling!----- Called the roll tonight. Orderly sick.

21st -- Six months of our time is gone anyway & I hope most. I don't like the notion of being Orderly. Don't suit. Drill this P.M. Going to have more drill Company & Battallion.

Apr. 22nd -- Fine day. One more Co. drill which done me good * too more Battallion. Boys playing cards in our shanty. Converse on Picket. The drill is sure.

23rd -- Rain most all day. April showes bring May flowers--the posies are out some, violets & the Peach trees are blossoming. Going on Patrol tonight.

April 24th -- Out on patrol last night. Nothing happened only it was very muddy & rained some. Today it rains again--glad of it for there is no drill. Got one dollars worth of Settlers Tickets. Got some apples.

25th -- Company Drill. Rather windy. Wrote to Eliza. Good news! We are going to be paid. Signed the payroll this afternoon.

26th -- Fine Morning. Beach is going on Picket, inspection-knapsacks & Blankets. Read a copy of Ballou's Monthly. Sunday is the best day in the week if the Drill comes off as usual. Went over to the old camp of the 12th this eve.
