April 28th - A couple hours drill this forenoon. I like it on some accounts. The rain prevented the drill in the afternoon. I sent some money home & sent $4.00 for the boys by the Chaplain.

29th -- Skirmish drill with firing. Inspection tomorrow at 10 o'clock. The Muster Rolls are to be made out to morrow & I am detailed for Picket, but the Capt. will not let me go, so Dickerman goes for me.

30th -- Muster comes off today--fine thing. Everyting must be nice as pie. This night the whole Regiment took their Officers to the Satters * made them treat & then charged them. Capt. Allen furnished cigars, Lieut. Williams Oranges & Lieut. Hamilton apples. All tip-top. Then the boys got the Adjutant out & made him treat. Then they got the Colonel himself out & he agreed to furnish boot blacking for the Regiment--200 boxes.

May 1st -- The day is quite warm. The Drill is bayonet exercise--a fine thing. Must go down to the Brooke & wash myself. More bayonet exercise this P.M. Co. on Patrol tonight. Went to the barn. The 12th moves tomorrow & our boys relieved them on Picket.

2nd -- Came into camp before sunrise. The 12th moves to day. Went over to their Camp & got a good many things. This is quite a warm day & to night I think I'll sleep some--I've not today.

May 3rd -- Very fine day. Inspection as usual. Went over to the 12th and got my hair cut & was absent from Dress Parade in consequence. We are to move our camp tomorrow.

4th -- We received orders to be ready to march with three days Rations last night but we have not yet got the orders to go and we have not moved our camp yet either. A little rain but a fine day nevertheless. We are feeling anxious about Gen Hooker.

May 5th -- The day begins quite warm & nice. We have a drill in the Manual of Arms. I draw the Rations & escape part of it. Wrote to Flora. Hard rain this P.M. We have been in this camp 7 weeks.
