May 19th, 1863 -- Fixing up the stocks with boughs. Quite warm. Drill this eve. Rollin came to the Company. No news.
20th -- Nothing particular going on. Went bathing as usual in the Occoquan. Go out on Patrol tonight. 21st -- Very warm today. No sleep last night of any consequence. Did not go on drill this eve. May 22nd -- Very warm today. No drill this forenoon. Went swimming this P.M. There is to be a Review tomorrow by Gen. Abercrombie & tonight we went through the performance--we are not to take our knapsacks. 23rd -- The warmest day we have had yet. The Review came off all right though it was very hot. Pat joined the Co. yesterday. 24th -- It is two months today since we came to this camp & if it is possible, hotter & dryer than ever. Have had no inspection today. Nothing whatever to do. Guess it will rain to night. 25th -- Quite cool today. Gid gone to the C.H. Have no drill. The Col. started for W. but got scared by rebs & came back. Drew the sugar today. Expect to be called out tonight. May 26th -- Drew the rations today. It is quite cool, had Comp. Drill in the forenoon & blank firing in the afternoon. The Col. is sick and now we shall haev an easy time I think. 27th -- Gid has gone to Washington & so has Sid. No drill but we had Dress Parade. 28th -- Rather warm. A little Drill. Wrote to Rec. Gage & to C.H. Barnes. 29th -- Fine day. No drill of any consequence. Dress Parade at 6 o'clock. Detailed for Sergt of Guard. 30th -- So busy today that have no time to write--fine weather. 31st -- Relieved this morning. Went down to the Ford & then up to Camp & then went swimming. June 1 -- On Fatigue this morning. It is soon done & then I drew the rations for the next 10 days. Warm day. 2nd -- My Birthday to day--21 years old. I did not expect on my last birthday to spend the next down here. Sid came back to camp today. |
