4th -- No rollcall this morning. Fine day, did not go bathing. Drill this eve.

5th -- On Patrol tonight. No rain yet. It is very dry but a slight sprinkle came on just at dark.

June 6th -- Fine weather yet. Did not sleep any last night but indulged a little this morn., went down to the River & went swimming with Sid and Rollin. Charley is on Guard & Tonight am alone. The story now is that we are to be paid off soon. I hope so.

7th -- Inspection this morning & that is all the doings we have had today. I went swimming & then washed my clothes. Wrote to Mother the other day. Rec'd a letter from C.H. Barnes and answered it tonight.

8th -- Signed the Pay roll to day. Drill as usual. Rather cool tonight.

9th -- No Drill. Paid off to day--$26.00 for Privates, I got $34.00. Very nice day--went swimming twice.

10th -- our Time ought to be out today. Company Drill A.M. & Parade P.M. No rain yet & not very hot.

June 11th -- Drew the rations today. No rain yet. Went to the River & swam across for the first time. Drill this eve.

12th -- Rather warm today, nothing new. Swapped watches with Page. Drill as usual. No rain yet, dry as anything.

13th -- On Guard (Camp) today--nothing going on. Hot in the day & cool in the night.

14th -- Off duty today. Went swimming to night. A number of pieces of Artillery pass by--they are the 5th Regular U.S. & other batteries. It appears that Hooker's whole army is moving & in retreat too.

15th -- All day there has been a constant stream of wagons & a brigade or so of troops passing us going to the Station--there is a great move going on in the Army. We shall be moving too, soon, (I think). The weather is very hot.
