June 16th, 1863 -- Weather somewhat cooler but not much. The Army trains & troops have not yet done passing. The 1st Vt Brigade passed this P.M. I saw Burton Clark & Ward Hurlburt all in high good health but somewhat tired. They halted two hours & we had a fine visit all round. It hardly seems possible that these are the men who have done the fighting for Uncle Sam.

th -- The Vermont boys camped for the night about three miles from here lsat night. This movement of the Army is a great thing. It has been quite a warm day. Went beyond the line to day over a mile. Cannon heard this P.M. at Centreville we think. The Rebels are in Penn. sure.

th -- Very hot till this afternoon when it rained & I had to go on Patrol in the wet. It rained all night almost but it is a fine thing, nevertheless.

th -- Went swimming. No drill. Rained a little & cool somewhat. Got a letter from C.H. Barnes this P.M.

th -- Moved the Camp to day back from the River a little. Rained last night. Our shany is fixed up nice. We have only a month more to serve the U.S.

st -- Nine months ago today, we were Mustered into the U.S. service. Gid gone on Picket. Worked at the cook shanty this A.M. The 12th arrived to day. Wrote to E. Jackson. No drill nor Dress Parade.

nd -- More men for Picket. No drill. The 12th goes on Patrol to night, on Picket tomorrow. Fine day.

rd -- Fine day. The 12th furnishes Picket to day. Dress Parade & Inspection--rumors of marching, am afraid will go.

th -- Three months ago since we came to this camp. Skirmish Drill this A.M. Went swimming & escaped Company Drill. P.M. Orders to March tomorrow at 7 o'clock for Union Mills to report there at 11. Sure thing I guess. Frank Hill reduced to the ranks.

th -- March to Union Mills where the Brigade united then we go on two miles northwest of Centreville where we bivouc in the rain for the night--the clothes & blankets go anywhere.

th -- Start again but got only to HerndonStation on the Hampshire & Loudon R.R.--not very hard marching.
