The Adepts Of Hermes
Counting On The Count
by Rowland Ebright III

Cards marked with an * are from the Assassins expansion set.

I think this deck is VERY degenerate and abusive. It's not that it bends any rules, it's just that it maximizes the abilities of a lot of Rare cards in combination. Your average player can't build this deck, but I happen to have a LOT of cards, so I did.

The Group cards:

The Plot cards:

The Strategy:

The idea is simple. Just lead with Dracula, get up Stonehenge as quickly as possible directly off of him (so he can defend it), and use your automatic take-over AND Illuminati actions to take all the resources, linking every one of them to the Count. Now they can't be taken or destroyed at all because of him (except Soulburner, but don't tell anyone if they don't realize it), he can't be killed unless it involves magic, and you're immune to magic because of Stonehenge!

This deck is intended to be entirely defensive. Don't make waves or your opponents will find a way to kill Dracula. Use the Holy Grail for Stonehenge so that they'll have to take it in order to destroy it, thus eliminating the disaster problem (thus the minimum of such protection in the deck.) Build up the Counts power so he can defend himself and it by giving him New Blood, making him the Messiah, using the Necronomicon, Book Of Kells and Death Mask, and throwing on the Hidden Influence. Once you get out the two churches, he has a 20 power (that's 40 to defend himself) that he can add to any attack (non-secret, non-instant, non-privileged) after the die-roll TWICE per round (if it isn't an attack to destroy [see Book Of Kells])!! This makes for quite a bargaining chip, so help some weaker players by defending them from more aggressive attackers in exchange for help when the others start turning on you in full force.

The Church Of Violentology has a built-in incentive to ward of attacks to destroy, so double this effect by using The Ark Of The Covenant for the Vatican (but nothing on the card says that it can't still be linked to the Count.) I picked these two churches because one is Violent, so can directly aid the Count, and the other makes you immune to Peaceful groups, thus reducing anyone's hope for a +4 against him.

All in all, this deck plays itself, but only play it once in a while, because a Nevermore or especially The Magic Goes Away NWO card will slaughter you. And be prepared to ward off some big attacks. Believe me, as your opponents start to watch all his bonuses and immunities building up, they will make alliances against you! They'll have to!!
