Loara High School - The Early Years

(taken from personal photos, scanned from the 1964 thru 1966
Seaxe yearbooks, and downloaded from the Web)
The class of 1966 was the second graduating class of Loara High School.  The campus lacked many of the facilities that I understand are there today.  No theater, no pool.  At least we had lighted tennis courts, which may have accounted for our first CIF championship - in tennis.

I had the honor of being a photographer for the Seaxe, and the Saxon Shield, working with some wonderful people.  I'll be uploading images from my three years at Loara (it should be noted that in the 60's and early 70's Loara was a three-year school) as I can find and scan them, or as alumni send them to me.

The drivers' ed room, and the staff.  L. to r., David Hurlburt, Floyd Chandler, Virgil Webb, Louie Ruiz, Glenn Thomas.
The drivers' ed. staff was notable for the fact that they were all also athletic coaches.
Remember the driver trainer machines (in background), in pre-personal computer days?

Dave Hurlburt is still on the Loara faculty.  He came to Loara in 1964, and was back coach when Loara won its first CIF championship in football in 1968.

The Seaxe caption says our field hockey team (no, they're not on roller blades) is here scoring against Savanna High.

This brings back memories for me because I dated the Savanna goalie, who got me through summer school chemistry by explaining Avogadro's Number.
Let's see, that's 6.02x1023...
Bless you, Christine.
